Walmart’s Competition Gets Heated !
When we think of the most popular supermarket retail stores, It’s always Walmart, Target, and Safeway. Walmart plans to wipe out competition and become the leading market dominant in the supermarket retail business.
So what can we expect to change? Truly there will be no changes, and Walmart’s strategic plan “Project Impact” will leave Walmart exactly where they started. The truth is, competition between supermarket businesses all depend on customer preference and price. Customers look for two major traits; product preference and price, or in other words points of difference.
Project Impact includes three objectives; cleaner stores, better customer service, and developing Walmart brand products to wipe out competition. Cleaner stores and customer service go a long way to improve brand image, however it will not turn over the majority of Target’s and Safeway’s customers to Walmart’s. Developing own brands could also prove to be costly because Walmart would be competing with all the bands they currently do business with. Nobody will buy Walmart cola over Pepsi’s cola because it is half the price.
Walmart must accept the fact that customers have preferences for going to different supermarkets. T0 wipe out competition, Walmart must create a uniquely different shopping experience.
